Day 10: REMEMBERING Jesus Is Our Rock

EBENEZER: STONE OF HELP

Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: "'The STONE that the builders rejected has become the CORNERSTONE; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? Matthew 21:42 ESV

REMEMBER VERSE

"These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your REMEMBERANCE all that I have said to you. John 14:25-26 ESV

DEVOTION

When Samuel placed the Ebenezer Stone and proclaimed that “Thus far the Lord has helped us,” he was not only referring to the help the Lord HAD performed, but also the Promised Help of the Messiah.

Jesus IS our Stone of Help. He IS our Foundation, our Refuge, and our Fortress. His Wondrous Holiness guarantees His Faithfulness. He is our Rock and we are saved through Him.

But in spite of all He IS, many reject Him. I would love to say I never reject Him, His truth, or His way, but … Yeah, I can’t lie when I’m talking about Jesus.

Why don’t I REMEMBER that every time I start building my life while rejecting or ignoring the ROCK I get in trouble? I don’t know why. But this year I am pledging to REMEMBER Jesus, my CORNERSTONE. And I am asking the Holy Spirit to teach me and remind me of Jesus’s words.

  • and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual ROCK that followed them, and the ROCK was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:4 ESV

  • PRAYER: Jesus, I ask You to help me drink long and deep of YOU, and You alone. May the water that comes from You, my Rock, satisfy my soul.

  • For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11 ESV

  • PRAYER: Lord, I ask You to help me lay the foundation of every part of my life on YOU and You alone. I desire You to be what my life is based on.

QUESTIONS

What other foundations, beside Jesus, have you built your life on? Ask the Lord to reveal these blind spots to you. (Warning: your toes will likely be stomped on before this exercise is through.)

What does it mean to you to drink “from the spiritual Rock” mentioned in 1 Corinthians 10:4(listed above)?

CHALLENGE

Go back to the first question above and ask the Lord to help you move away from each false foundation.

Walk around your house or a large building. Look at the foundation. Imagine how the building would fall if the foundation failed. Ask the Lord to help you apply that to your own life.

Be to me a ROCK of refuge, to which I may continually come; you have given the command to save me, for you are my ROCK and my fortress. Psalm 71:3 ESV

All Scripture from the ESV. Emphasis added.

Tomorrow on Day 11 we will remember the Jesus is our Cornerstone
