Day 14: REMEMBERING God Trains Me For Battle

EBENEZER: STONE OF HELP

Blessed be the LORD, my ROCK, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle. (Psalm 144:1)

REMEMBER VERSE

For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a ROCK, except our God? Psalm 18:31

DEVOTION

My friend’s son just joined the army and his first step was heading straight to boot camp, because a soldier cannot fulfill his or her duty without intense training. For an army to function on the field of battle, it must be skilled and respond immediately to orders.

I’ve joined the army of the Lord. I belong to Jesus. I will enter the fray and engage the enemy as my Commander orders. But, when I look to myself for the resources I need, I find I’m not wise enough, strong enough, or equipped enough to do battle on my own. I become discouraged, frustrated and worn out as my flesh fails.

Therefore, I must humble myself and submit to the training and enablement necessary. My General trains me for every battle He sends me to. He arms me. He gives me strength. He protects me and supports me.

Whatever battles you face, make sure you turn first to your ROCK who will train your hands for war.

  • the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless. He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights. He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your gentleness made me great. (Psalm 18:32-35)

  • PRAYER: Lord, thank You for promising that You will train me and strengthen me for the warfare I will face. I ask You for Your wisdom and support for the battles I face now.

  • Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, (2 Corinthians 3:4-5)

  • PRAYER: Lord, I am so grateful You don’t expect or require me to be sufficient on my own. Thank You for everything You supply. I want to rest in the confidence of all Jesus provides.

QUESTIONS

Read our first verse: Psalm 144:1. Have you ever thought about the Lord training your hands for war? What does that mean to you? What “wars” do you face now?

Is there a call or cause that burdens your heart? Is the Lord calling you to enter the battle? Ask Him for the strength and the training to fight well. (Psalm 18:31-35)

CHALLENGE

If you have had an issue on your heart, I challenge you to ask the Lord to ways to engage in the battle.

If you don’t have a battle now, I challenge you to ask the Lord for your next assignment!

All Scripture from the ESV. Emphasis added.

Tomorrow on Day 15 we will remember the God Provides
