Day 3: REMEMBERING our God of Wonders

31 Days Remembering God

EBENEZER: STONE OF HELP VERSE

For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a ROCK, except our God? (Psalm 18:31 ESV)

REMEMBER VERSE:

He has caused his WONDEROUS works to be REMEMBERED; the LORD is gracious and merciful. (Psalm 111:4 ESV)

DEVOTION:

What does the “God of Wonders” even mean? A wonder is something so beyond comprehension it defies explanation.

Our world is full of WONDERS like gravity and the water cycle and the complexity of the atom and the earth’s rotation around the sun. I forget how magnificently the Creator formed the microscopic to the gargantuan.

I also tend to forget the WONDER of redemption and forgiveness and His never-changing love. I can’t explain those any more than I can explain quantum physics - but the truth of everything lies in the WONDER of my God. So today I choose to remember!

  • I will REMEMBER the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will REMEMBER your WONDERS of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? You are the God who works WONDERS; you have made known your might among the peoples. (Psalm 77:11-14 ESV)

  • PRAYER: Lord, please help me take the time to ponder all the wonders that surround me that I take for granted. Please remind me of the wonderful ways You work so that I won’t take them for granted.

  • O LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done WONDERFUL things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. (Isaiah 25:1 ESV)

  • PRAYER: Thank You Jesus for paying for my sin, for loving me, and for calling me into Your Kingdom. Thank You for the wonderful ways You continue to work in my life.

QUESTIONS:

Think BIG: list some of the big, universal wonders the Lord has worked. Be creative!

Think SMALL: list some of the small wonders the Lord does, ones that might not be so obvious, but are amazing just the same.

Ask the Lord to help you remember some of His gracious works. Make sure and write them down in your Ebenezer Journal though the day. There aren’t enough pages to record them all.

CHALLENGE:

Go stand outside and praise the God of Wonders for 30 seconds for everything you see and for the amazing way He created our world to work.

Write “God of Wonders” on a sheet of paper and hang it somewhere you will see it throughout the day. When a challenge comes, REMEMBER: your God of Wonders is still in charge.

  • "Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing WONDERS? Exodus 15:11 ESV

All Scripture from the ESV. Emphasis added.
