Day 9: REMEMBERING God is My Foundation

…therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I am the one who has laid as a FOUNDATION in Zion, a STONE, a tested STONE, a precious CORNERSTONE, of a sure FOUNDATION: 'Whoever believes will not be in haste.' Isaiah 28:16 ESV

Of old you laid the FOUNDATION of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. Psalm 102:25 ESV

The Lord, with the authority to take away every choice, does not. He allows me to choose what to build my life on. Amazing.

I also get to enjoy the consequences of my choices, and I reap those more and more as I get older. Choices I made decades ago are still bearing fruit, for good or bad.

Here is my testimony:

Every single thing — EVERY! — that I built on the solid FOUNDATION of the Lord God, has stood the test of time and weathered the storms.

And EVERY single thing I built on the shifting sands of convenience, preference, whim, or reliance on others has crashed to the ground in the storms of life.

Jesus laid His life down to pay for our sins. But He also lays His life down as our sure FOUNDATION to build our life upon. It doesn’t mean there won’t be problems. But it does mean that whenever flood waters rise our feet will be squarely planted on Him. Are there storms in your life? Well, REMEMBER where your feet need to be planted. On Jesus!

  • …he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the FOUNDATION on the ROCK. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. Luke 6:48 ESV

  • PRAYER: Thank You Lord for providing me with the rock FOUNDATION of Yourself to build my life on. I confess I often choose sand instead of You. Please forgive me, I don’t want to stand ANYWHERE but squarely on You!

  • My hand laid the FOUNDATION of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand forth together. Isaiah 48:13 ESV

  • PRAYER: I praise You Lord for creating this world on the steadiness of Your FOUNDATION. I praise You for creating a universe that displays Your constant reliableness. Help me rely on You only as my FOUNDATION.

Think carefully about different areas of your life.

  • Which are built on sand?

  • Which are built on the solid rock of the Lord?

What changes could you make to rest your life on the Rock?

One way to identify FOUNDATION problems is to look for cracks in the walls. While we could build our lives on the Rock and have problems, our struggles (our cracks) can reveal places we rest on ourselves or others, rather than Jesus.

List your problem areas and ask the Lord to reveal where you’ve built on sand.

All Scripture from the ESV. Emphasis added.

Tomorrow on Day 10 we will remember the Lord Jesus.
