64. When Cancer Comes To The Empty Nest

Episode 64

Kristine Brown had plans for when the children left. Plans to write and use her time in ways she'd never had the opportunity to before. But through an arduous cancer journey, the Lord allowed Kristine to learn new lessons on trusting Him, even when all the plans go in a direction you would never choose.

Kristine compiled these lessons and overlays them with the life of Rahad in her book, "Cinched."

Quotes from Kristine’s Interview:

  • If we have prayed and we’ve asked the Holy Spirit to guide us we can walk it out knowing that He is with us. God’s presence is one of those things He promises us, to never leave us or forsade us, even those very difficult circumstnaces where we think, what good could possibly come from this?

  • In the stillness I realized that God walking with me through this challenge was going to deepen my relationship with Him in waay that was going to make the message I needed to share even more sincere, even more vulnerable. And that’s the message He wanted me to share.

  • Action doesn’t always mean taking that step of faith, sometimes it means just wait and believe that the Lord is working in this situation and He is going to bring you through it.

  • God is working in those mistakes as well. Because we step into something and it doesn’t look at all like we expected it doesn’t mean we necessarily have to …God works sometimes in these mistakes in a way that will stick with us as we step into other things and the future. So we don’t need to condemn ourselves

  • God has opened a door for me to now minister to others in this way and to walk in that and to trust in that and to say this is not what I had planned for myself but I see the value in this.

  • My situation was such a beautiful example of how walking through that pain made even a stronger message: for Him to be able to show me the blessings coming out of that and for me to be able to share that with others in a way I never expected

  • I spend a lot of my time taking care of myself. And that has been something that realizing that now in the empty nest years that is also a gift. Now I have to make sure I am eating the right thinkgs and exercising regularly t obe able to do the things I want to do.
