Day 25: REMEMBERING God Speaks To Us

31 DAYS REMEMBERING GOD-23.png

EBENEZER: STONE OF HELP

And he gave to Moses, when he had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of STONE, written with the finger of God. Exodus 31:18

REMEMBER VERSE

I will MEDITATE on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. ... Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will MEDITATE on your wondrous works. Psalm 119:15, 27

DEVOTION

I’ve been guilty of thinking, “I wish God would just write on the wall WHAT I am supposed to do.” I claim I’m searching for clear directions.

BUT (and oh, sigh- it’s painful to admit this) usually what I’m really looking for is confirmation that I DON’T have to do what’s hard, I CAN avoid conflict, and I CAN get whatever it is I really want.

Actually, the Lord speaks ideas to me in the Bible that negate my need for His divine wall-writing. Things like “love your neighbor as yourself” or “pure religion is to visit widows and orphans” or “love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.”

Every word of Scripture is God’s megaphone. He calls me from complacency and challenges my compromises. He defines love with ideas of sacrifice and preferring others and giving away the coat off my back.

He displays leadership by washing feet. He demands business men be honest. He requires husbands and wives to be faithful. He leads churches to be full of members who serve and work in the ways He gifted each one.

He addresses every area of my life: relational, spiritual, financial, physical, mental. It’s all there.

If I want to hear God speak, all I need to do is read what He said.

  • For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the LORD, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel. Ezra 7:10

  • PRAYER: Thank You for Your Law Lord and for every Word You breathed into Scripture. Help me study it, do it, and teach it.

  • For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

  • PRAYER: Thank you for all Your Word does. All it reveals. All it convicts. All it discerns. Help me obey what You show me.

QUESTIONS

Read Ezra 7:10. What would have to change for you to “set your heart” to study, do, and teach the Word?

Read Hebrews 4:12. When has the Lord used the Bible to reveal changes you needed to make.

What is the difference in meditating on the Word and reading it?

CHALLENGE

Choose a verse and STUDY it. Look up words. Find cross-references. Look for the deeper meaning.

My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, that I may MEDITATE on your promise. Psalm 119:148

All Scripture from the ESV. Emphasis added.

Tomorrow on Day 26 we will remember to love God’s Word.
