How To Downsize: Downsizing My Stuff to Upsize My Impact Challenge

It’s time.

After eighteen years, we’re moving from our beloved country home, with it’s four car garage and out building, to my husband’s childhood home, with half the square footage and no garage.

After raising seven children and navigating the waters of homeschooling, piano, football, ballet, basketball, speech & debate, bicycles, camping, airsoft, and various other activities and hobbies that each had its own supplies, we are DOWNSIZING. With only one child (who’s no longer a child) at home, life changes dictate a new season. And this season needs fewer supplies.

While excited for less to care for and a smaller yard to mow, cutting our possessions in half overwhelms me. How in the world will I get rid of that much stuff?

I ask my friends to join me! That means you! How about we help each other?

Downsize My Stuff To Upsize My Impact

This stage of life contains new opportunities to serve Jesus and love people. But, in my late fifties I’ve less energy on a daily basis. It’s like taking a pay cut. I need to redo my budget, but for energy instead of money. My work must fit my availability.

Here’s another analogy. When my car sensor tells me I have 157 miles until empty, I’d be foolish to try and make 250 miles. I’d find myself on the side of the road, because the car only runs on the available fuel.

My body and work only runs on the available energy.

I desire my later years to be more impactful than my earlier days. I see no reason to sit back and coast to my heavenly home.I want to enter swinging my spiritual fist one last time at the enemy.

But to accomplish that I need to find the energy from somewhere. The first place I’m looking at that is my STUFF. If I have to manage, organize, and clean fewer possessions, I’ll have more energy for what matters. For the spiritual. For the eternal. For whatever Jesus loves.

So, I’m downsizing my stuff to upsize my impact! For the month of June, 2021, I’m asking you to join me and let’s lighten our load!

Here’s the skinny on joining the challenge:

  • Take a picture of your own downsizing.

  • Share the link of this blog

  • Share my podcast on social media. Episodes 40-44 are all about downsizing

My BEST Gift To You!

Even with the motivation of winning books and $25 to spend on Amazon, it’s still hard to downsize. So I’m giving you my best gift. I mean, this is AWESOME!

I’m giving you a Pass. This pass is almost magical.

It provides freedom from guilt and “what if I need it someday?”

This pass entitles you to get rid of things that used to be very useful but just sit on the shelf now. It also allows you to give away the shirt you love but never seem to wear. The coat you spent too much money on. The school projects painstakingly completed by your child (or, let’s be honest, probably by you!)

You may pass on any stuff you SHOULD use but don’t.

It’s like a get out jail free card.

BUT, It’s a get out of my house card for your overload of things.

“How can I get this magic pass!?!?” you ask. Well! It couldn’t be easier. Sign up below, which will add you to my email list and you will get a whole packet. Besides the PASS! you will get print outs of, 5 Question To Help Me Downsize, and 5 Prayers To Help Me Downsize.”

I also have podcasts for these:

Let’s help each other downsize in order to free our lives up to serve Jesus in new and even more impactful ways.

Let’s lighten the load and run hard after Him!
